Proposing a new reinterpretation of a work I started making at Catwalk during my residency in January 2019. The piece, which I named after Catslair, was a networked animation and musical composition, which was exhibited at the Dusklit interactive art festival in the summer of 2019. The original Catslair required multiple viewers to a website via QR code, where their phones would be added as "performers" in a live, algorithmically generated performance including recorded dialog and music. The original piece requires significant technical setup, so I'm proposing a reinterpreted piece: an augmented reality website with a simple print that could be mounted in an exhibition space or in the window of a participating business or location. Viewers would use their phones to view and listen to the animation and music, which is procedurally generated, meaning each viewing is a unique variation of the story, animation and musical composition. The print would be designed as a blank musical score, decorated with drawings from my time at Catwalk. Using a phone, the viewer will be able to see the score for the music imposed over the score, and the drawings would trigger variations in the animation.
See documentation of the original work on my website: https://owen.cool/work/catslair/
Ideally, the piece would be installed in a publicly visible place, such as a window, on the wall inside a location where viewers could stop to view the work, or in an exhibition space with other works. A QR code would prompt users to find the website on their phones where further instructions would lead them into the viewing experience.
